International Student Program

 

The University of the Philippines Manila accepts applications for admission by international students granted they meet all the requirements depending on their category:

 

New Students 
 

FOR AUTOMATIC ADMISSION/NON-UPCAT TAKERS:  applicants who graduated from high schools abroad and are yet to enroll in a college may be admitted to UPM as a beginning freshman into non-quota programs even without taking the UPCAT (University of the Philippines Admissions Test) as long as they satisfy the ff. requirements:

  1. Proof of Completion of the high school program they took 
  2. Qualification in an equivalent college-qualifying national or international examination such as: GCE (General Certificate of Education); SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test); and IBE (International Baccalaureate Diploma)
    1. For GCE: ordinary level passes and 2 advanced level passes
    2. For SAT: minimum total score of 1200
  3. Those whose native language or medium of instruction in the previous school is not English, the applicant must have a minimum score of 500 in the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or a minimum score of 173 in computerized TOEFL

 

In case of FAILED AUTOMATIC ADMISSIONS: Applicants desiring to be admitted to UPM but fail to satisfy the requirements for automatic admissions must take the UPCAT.

 

Filipino citizens who graduated from a secondary school abroad must satisfy the same requirements listed above in order to be admitted to UPM.

 

Transfer Students 

 

Foreign students who wish to transfer may only be admitted to the university if there are unfilled slots in the college and/or degree program they wish to apply for as set by the University Registrar and College Dean. Applicants must also satisfy the following requirements:

  1. An average grade of:  “2”; “86”; “B” or better
  2. Completed at least 33 units of academic courses/subjects in a non-UP college
  3. Satisfied other requirements as set by a particular college or degree program the applicant wants to enroll in (e.g., interviews, examinations)

 

Transfer students shall complete no less than 50% of the units required for the program they wish to enroll in

 

Foreign applicants transferring form another Philippine school should secure a permit to transfer from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

 

Applications for a Master’s degree program

 

(A Preview of ) Requirements:

  1. Holder of a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with good academic record from a recognized institution
  2. A duly completed application form together with the following documents: 
    1. Original copy of the Official Transcript of Records* 
    2. Certified true copy of the English translation of the student’s diploma with the university’s seal and registrar’s signature* 
    3. Two letters of reference from former professors, supervisors, or even employers
    4. Photocopy of birth certificate (original to be presented for verification)
    5. Four (4) passport-size photos of the student

 

 *These documents must be duly authenticated by the Philippine Embassy in the student’s country of origin/legal residence

 

Provision regarding Medical/Dental Programs

Applicants who plan to take a medical course (CEM) or dental course (CED) are required to get a Certificate of Eligibility for Admission from the Commission of Higher Education, located in the Office of Student Services (OSS) of the University of the Philippines Diliman, C.P. Garcia Avenue, CHED HEDC Building, 3rd Floor, Quezon City

 

 

DUAL CITIZENSHIP: Students who hold dual citizenship and wish to be considered Filipino for the purpose of studying in UP (until their graduation) must submit a copy of the order of the Identification Certification issued by the Bureau of Immigration prior to admission. Male students are required to take military science or ROTC once admitted to the university. 

 

Important notes:

  1. Applicants must have a student visa to be allowed admission to the University; those who only possess a tourist visa must apply for a visa conversion at the Bureau of Immigration (may be done once admitted). 
  2. Applicants are advised to have all necessary documents before they physically go to the Office of Student Affairs to get their Study Permit
